Tut-Tut Marstons Mills, MA This little kid's boot was found in the roundabout near the airport in Marstons Mills on June 18. Two weeks later, I was again traveling down Route 149 and saw that the little Lost Sole had disappeared. But a mile or so down the road, I found it again... ...or so I thought. On closer inspection, with the aid of my trusty husband (who can, unlike the author, tell left from right without visual aids such as holding up each hand with the thumb extended perpendicular to the index finger to see which one forms an "L" ), I determined that I had not found a Lost Sole moved, but had located instead, a Lost Sole's partner. Will they ever meet again?

Yellow Man Sagamore Rotary, MA Soon, the Sagamore Rotary will be no more. No more death spiral approach to the Sagamore Bridge, no more racing tourists from Connecticut and New York to get to the bridge first, no more take a deep breath and pray they don't hit you close calls. It's the end of an era, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Garden State Sagamore Rotary, MA It's unusual to find two different shoes at the same time, but on June 18, 2006, the Lost Sole Gods were smiling on me. After walking around the rotary to capture Yellow Man, I was walking back to my car and nearly tripped over this rubber gardening clog. I burst into laughter when I saw it, and then looked up and saw this man watching me. For a moment, I became acutely aware of how ridiculous I looked standing in the middle of the street taking a picture of a shoe. But I guess I'm used to looking ridiculous, so there's that.

Wee Swimmer Amherst, NH Yes, I have alien toes, but I decided to bare them in order to give this wee water shoe a bit of perspective. There's no limit to the sacrifices I'll make for the sake of my art.
In the Jungle Plymouth, MA They can run, but they can't hide. I can now spot a Lost Sole in tall grass while traveling at a speed of 50 miles per hour (me, not the shoe).

Michellie Sandwich, MA I saw this shoe while driving a friend to a doctor's appointment. It's just a cheap, vinyl, Payless number, but it appeared while I was in the company of greatness. By sacrificing her own freedom, Michellie succeeded in bringing a beautiful new soul into the world. All children should be so lucky to have a mom like her.

Miss Mossy Yarmouth Port, MA She looks like she belongs here, on the side of the road, resting among the leaves and grass. She's the color of moss and bears the same texture. Perhaps she'll simply melt into the earth and slowly transform into the olive swatch of moss she so closely resembles anyway.
